Meghan Markle was just branded a “silly little cable TV actress” by former “Top Gear” host Jeremy Clarkson, who penned a scathing oped taking her side over British television personality Piers Morgan.
Morgan left his job at “Good Morning Britain” after refusing to apologize for criticizing Meghan following her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey two weeks ago. Though Clarkson and Morgan had been enemies in the past, he defended him in his op-ed for The Sun, saying that he found Meghan’s interview to be “especially weird” because “for the first time ever, I found myself in full agreement with both Nigel Farage AND Piers Morgan.”
Clarkson went on to argue that Meghan is “much revered by the young and the stupid who believe that her brand of simpering victimhood will one day bring down the monarchy, but it won’t,” before saying that the British royal family has been through far worse than the current controversy including “beheadings, affairs, abdications.”
“If the British monarchy can soldier on through that, I’m fairly sure it’ll be able to weather the banal musings of a silly little cable TV actress,” he said. “Trust me on this one. Markle’s toast, and within five years, I suspect she’ll be posing for photographs, on her own outside the Taj Mahal or sitting on the back of a playboy’s yacht in the Med, and poor old Piers will realize that he lost his job over absolutely nothing at all.”
During the interview with Oprah, Meghan claimed that she was hit with racism from within the royal family, claiming that an unnamed senior royal questioned how dark her then-unborn son Archie’s skin would be. Harry refused to name this family member, only saying that it was neither Queen Elizabeth nor Prince Philip. Meghan also claimed that she felt so isolated as a royal that she considered committing suicide at one point during her pregnancy.
The royal family responded two days later in a brief statement released by Buckingham Palace.
“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the royal family said in a statement obtained by Fox News. “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
