“Just two years ago, 12 House Democrats cosponsored the PHASE in $15 Wage Act.” [Free Beacon] Half of that group is pushing legislation to nationalize the minimum wage increase across the country. They are joined by Senate Democrats seeking to circumvent the 60-vote filibuster to ramrod a bill through both chambers.
“Alfredo Ortiz, the president of the Job Creators Network, argued that moderation on wage issues is no longer acceptable in the Democratic ranks.” It’s clear that lobbyists and party mainstays called in chits to get as much of their utopian wishlist passed before 2022. The silver lining is their haste suggests Democrats know the midterms look to be a dogfight for them to retain their slim majority in the House.
Anyone following the first ten weeks of the Biden Presidency knows the piling number of gaffes have driven Democrats desperately off-message. Minimum wage increases have been long coveted by social progressives masquerading as good and decent representatives of their constituents. Nailing down this win would offer a feather in the cap for the likes of AOC and Nancy Pelosi while burdening the economy to the point of collapse. Maybe that’s what the Democrats are really after. It’s hard to demand a centralized economy when businesses are making profits.
As always, this has been the World According to Chris.
