Accidents March 9

The Nebraska City Police Department responded to a two-vehicle accident on North 5th Street near 9th Avenue. A blue 2009 Chevrolet Aveo driven by Bertha J. Sammons of Nebraska City was backing out of a driveway when it struck a parked red 2011 Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicle.

March 6

The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office responded at 1:25 p.m. to a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 75 and G Road. A white 2017 GMC K1500 pickup truck driven by Harry A. Larson of Nebraska City was attempting to turn left from Highway 75 onto G Road when it was struck by a red 2008 Nissan Sentra, which had crossed the lane line and was driven by Vincent John Hawkins of Omaha. The Nissan deflected into the southbound lane of the highway, according to the sheriff’s report, where it was struck by a black 2009 Peterbilt owned by JDA Transport LLC of Omaha and driven by Duniesky Nieves Acosta of Omaha. Damage estimate to the GMC is $10,000, according to the sheriff’s report, and $5,000 to the Peterbilt. The Nissan, valued at $15,000, was totaled in the accident. No injuries were reported, and alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the accident.

March 5

The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office responded at 8:47 a.m. to a report of a vehicle hitting a building at 726 2nd St. in Otoe. A tan 2021 Lincoln Corsair sport utility vehicle driven by Edith Hillman of Otoe was attempting to park on the east side of St. John’s Lutheran Church when the accelerator was pressed instead of the brake, according to the sheriff’s report. The Corsair was believed to be totaled in the accident, and Hillman was transported to Community Area Health by Syracuse Rescue. No damage was reported to the church building.

March 2

The Nebraska City Police Department responded at 3:28 p.m. to a pedestrian-vehicle accident at the intersection of 11th Street and 1st Corso. A pedestrian was crossing 11th Street and was struck by a northbound gray 2016 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Zachary J. Hawley of Brock. The pedestrian sustained injuries to his face, right knee, and right ankle.

Feb. 26

The Nebraska City Police Department responded at 4:21 p.m. to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 19th Street and Central Avenue. A black 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle driven by Edenilson G. Pro of Nebraska City was northbound on 19th Street after stopping the intersection when he was struck by a black 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Brandon L. Schebaum of Nebraska City. Schebaum told the officers the Tahoe did not stop at the intersection, according to the police report.

Feb. 16

The Nebraska City Police Department responded at 2:30 p.m. to a two-vehicle accident on South 11th Street near 16th Corso. A silver 2018 Jeep Wrangler sport utility vehicle driven by Lori J. Cozad of Nebraska City was southbound on 11th Street when it was struck by a red 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Jason S. Booth of Nebraska City and owned by Landis Engine Co. Inc.
